Modulo: The Modular Furniture Store

A TripleTen project to build an ecommerce website focusing on sustainable furniture.

On my final project for TripleTen, I had a chance to design an ecommerce experience for a furniture retail site. As I was researching and interviewing consumers, I found a consistent set of anxieties: “How will this look in my space?” “Will this color clash with my flooring?” These questions showed me that users struggled to visualize products in their homes and lacked confidence in material quality when shopping online.

With these needs in mind, I focused on building trust and supporting spatial decision-making by including three key features:

  • Fabric sample ordering to let users feel materials before committing.

  • A Look Book to save favorites and receive coordinated color and product suggestions for creating cohesive rooms.

  • An AR view tool that allowed users to place furniture in their own space to assess scale, style, and fit in real time.

Usability testing showed that these features increased users’ confidence and reduced uncertainty around color, scale, and material quality. The testing also revealed opportunities for refinement. Users wanted the Look Book to display suggested items directly within the visual layout rather than in a separate list, and they preferred dimensions to appear on the product image itself instead of only in technical specs. These insights highlight how small presentation and interaction details can significantly impact clarity, trust, and decision-making in e-commerce experiences.
